I set out to brave the fords of lower Appalachia this weekend, exploring new routes and mountain gaps in Wolf Ford near Brevard, North Carolina. This was my first real taste of sub-freezing temperature riding, and I tried new forms of layering with mixed results. While the freezing river gorges of Western North Carolina are no easy place to plan for, I hope this Florida-born lizard person will get the hang of winter riding soon enough.

Exposure Axis Mk10

In order to finalize my 2024 Editor’s Dozen that was published this morning, I wanted to grab a few more night riding photos of the Exposure Axis light I included. Luckily, there were wind warnings and a lot of rain, so Emily and I geared up in all our wet-weather gear, charged some lights, and snuck in a quick lap on some local trails just down the street from our place in Powell River. We were playing around with slow shutter speeds, and I’m quite pleased with this shot that Emily got.

Weekend Snapshot Good Night 2024

Virginia and I rolled out for our Good Night 2024 campout over the weekend on opening day. It was a perfect evening, complete with a chunky climb out of the valley, a visit to a local artisan market, freshly made tamales, and a scenic campsite in a botanical wonderland.
