We never know what to expect from our long-running Weekend Snapshot series, but Monday after Monday, readers from our global community surprise us with wanderlust-inducing scenes from their rides along spectacularly beautiful trails near and far. Although a very hot day, followed by a very rainy one, loomed, we decided to risk it and take a short blast on the Castlemaine-Maldon Trail, camping in one of our favourite historic gold-mining towns. We were rewarded with rare bird sightings, an empty campground, and a mob of 20 kangaroos feasting 15 metres from our tent… as well as missing the rain!

Emily and I recently wrapped up a nine-day bikepacking trip on Baja’s Cape Loop. I’ll admit that, due to Baja’s popularity as a bikepacking destination, it hasn’t been high on my list of places to ride, but I’m starting to understand what all the hype is about. The riding was great (and slow at times), the food was delicious, and the locals were friendly. I’ll be sharing more soon, but for now, here’s a photo I captured from an optional bit of a coastal riding I added on between El Pescadero and Todos Santos. It was well worth the push up!
