Raced the 2022 Buckshot recently. Somewhere between 23-30 brave souls turned up for the roughest, climbiest version of the event yet. We had glorious sun, trecherous snow, and malicious mud combined with some of the very best views in the region. Around 7,300 metres of climbing later, it was the best long weekend in recent memory.

A scene from a recent overnight bikepacking trip just west of Boulder. We had perfect weather and a good crew, and it was about as pleasant as a trip can possibly go.

A challenging short trip, as I had only one evening and the next morning to spare. After scouting favorable conditions for an attempt at astrophotography, taking the late train, and climbing close to 2,000 metres (6,500 feet) of elevation, I was rewarded with quite a view. Having arrived at the destination (Bachalpsee) around 1 a.m., quite tired and setting up camp while photographing the Milky Way, I could only think of getting a good night’s sleep and postprocessing the next day.
