In the latest episode of her open-ended series documenting rides around Europe and beyond, Laura Kirkpatrick meets up with a new friend she met while riding across France, and the duo pedal some 600 kilometers across the Balkans. Their mixed-terrain route took them across Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, featuring more than 7,700 meters (25,000 feet) of climbing.
The video above, When Adventure Became Everything, follows the pair as they face steep mountain passes, remote gravel roads, and the frenetic beauty of the Balkan countries. It captures the many highs and lows one can expect to experience on such a journey, from pure joy to burnout to learning to trust an inner voice that’s only sometimes reliable.
