Not all trips are about seeing places. Sometimes, they’re about self-exploration, immersing yourself in a culture, or, as in this case, reconnecting with a good friend.

I met Sanne by chance five years ago, and despite living in different countries, we’ve stayed closely (digitally) connected. A few months ago, she mentioned wanting to do a bike trip together, so we didn’t hesitate to make it happen. That’s how we found ourselves in Sardinia, ready to spend 10 days cycling across the island.

We set out without a fixed plan—something quite new to me—with the simple goal of enjoying our time together while cycling (and fooling) around. Since I had more experience with bike travel, I felt a bit responsible for Sanne, but it didn’t take long for her to prove she was ready for the challenge. In fact, she brought extra confidence to the team, reassuring me that if we ever ran into trouble, it’d be easier to get through it together.

Sardinia offered us quiet coastal paths, scenic mountains, unpredictable weather, and Sanne’s first hike-a-bike! Of course, we faced insecurities and challenges along the way, but what stood out the most were the moments in between—ranging from deep conversations to silly, contagious laughter. More than a bike trip, it became a reflection on friendship: how rare it is to spend uninterrupted time with someone and how those moments can deepen a connection in surprising ways.

This time, I invite you to join us in Sardinia as we navigate our way across the island. There’s so much more to this place than its pretty blue waters. Most of all, I invite you to meet my friend Sanne.
