In February 2021, Greg Edwards (@greg.hikes) took part in a self-supported brevet event, riding 1,100 kilometers across the North Island of New Zealand on Kōpiko Aotearoa, a newly established bikepacking route connecting the island’s two widest points, Cape Egmont and East Cape. The Kōpiko Aotearoa Bikepacking Route
The Kōpiko Aotearoa route was established by the Kennett brothers and is reported to be about 50% unpaved and mostly suited for a gravel bike. You can find more, including a PDF guidebook, over at touraotearoa.nz.
