Riding the Rails

Thanks in advance for spreading the word!

In this new film by Evan McKay, Ella and Alex McAndrew take on a whole new kind of bikepacking adventure, using the abandoned railroads of Vermont to ride the rails into the backcountry to camp and fish…

After noticing the abandoned rail lines around their property in Vermont, Ella and Alex McAndrew set out to build a bicycle-powered rail car to carry them, their dog, and all the gear they would need for bike-camp-fish adventures into the backcountry. This new film from Smartwool and Evan McKay follows this ingenious undertaking as they draw inspiration from designs already in place, learn to weld, build an alternative human-powered escape vehicle, and head out on a bikepacking trip that’s quite unlike anything we’ve posted on the site before. Watch it here and scroll down for a photo gallery.

The harder it is to access something, the better the fishing is and the prettier the locale.
