Canada’s BT 700 wanders along a mixed surface of gravel roads, rail trail, rowdy unmaintained roads, and forested singletrack for a roughly 800-kilometer loop including some of Ontario’s most amazing bikepacking terrain. The first grand depart was in 2019, and it was an exciting addition to the Canadian bikepacking scene as Eastern Canada’s first official bikepacking event. This year, there were over 70 riders participating, with 30 folks registered for live tracking on Trackleaders, and most of them are now finished their rides, having pedaled through severe thunderstorms, long climbs, and everything in between.

Kevin Poirier and Maggie Livelsberger are the winners of the 2024 BT 700. Both riders completed the course at a blistering pace. Maggie set a new women’s course record and a new overall singlespeed FKT, with a time of 2 days, 17 hours, and 22 minutes. Kevin delivered a stellar performance, finishing in 55 hours and 38 minutes. Apparently, Kevin only slept for two hours the entire time. Neither rider had ridden the course before, making their wins all the more impressive.
Riders faced all four seasons on the course this year, with a sweltering heat wave settling in across southern Ontario on Monday morning. They also endured thunderstorms and a short bout of hail on Tuesday. The competition was as fierce as the weather, with both riders jockeying for first position up until the last day. Congratulations to both of you, and to all the other finishers of the BT 700.
There are still some riders out tackling the route. Follow along live here.
