Ortlieb just announced the new Handlebar-Pack Plus, a front bag that has the same form as the Handlebar-Pack QR we reviewed last year but with a push-button system that allows it to be easily removed and reattached to the bars. Plus, it’s now available in a Dark Chili colorway. See details here…
Inspired by the Handlebar-Pack QR bag in the brand’s bikepacking range, the Ortlieb Handlebar-Pack Plus is designed to close the gap between bike travel gear and bikepacking. The waterproof handlebar bag can be used with other separately available handlebar mounting systems, including the new “Ultimate Mount QR,” a new mounting bracket designed around the Bar-Lock fastening system. This enables the bag to be attached to the handlebars with nothing more than two cords (which Ortlieb refers to as ropes) and an impact-resistant plastic mount. It can then be easily removed and reattached for carrying around as a travel bag.
Like the QR version, the Handlebar-Pack Plus has a storage volume of 11 liters and weighs about 500 grams. It uses the same roll closure with a 32 centimeter width designed for drop handlebars that measure around 40 centimeters and wider. It includes the same general structure with two cam-lock buckles and outer side pockets that provide space for stowing small items and snacks. The Handlebar-Pack Plus will come in ORTLIEB’s Plus fabric, which has a slightly different look and feel from the QR pack. Two other distinctive features on the new Ortlieb Handlebar-Pack Plus include a new Dark Chili color and a detachable shoulder strap to make the bag a travel accessory away from the bike. It will also come with the inner accessory pocket that is currently sold separately.
Pricing will be announced in the coming months, but it will be similar to Ortlieb’s other bags and handlebar mounts. The Ortlieb Handlebar-Pack Plus will be available this fall/winter. Watch for details as they come available.
