As we approach the end of another great fat bike season in Gunnison, it serves as a reminder of the significance of seasons, which many regions aren’t experiencing this year. A winter like this one will help fill reservoirs, saturate soils, and bring forth beautiful wildflowers. This shot was one highlight of the season, and I’m hopeful for many more winters like this one in the future, but I also know that isn’t a guarantee any longer.

For the last week, Emily and I have been on a mission to re-take the California coast—an area we usually skirt around to avoid big cities. Seeing Los Angeles, San Francisco, and the surrounding areas in a new light has been fun. One standout experience was following a route designed by Erin Caroll (organizer of the Tour de Los Padres) that we worked into a quick overnighter circumnavigating Ojai in Ventura County. Despite its proximity to a major metropolis, we were blown away by the jaw-dropping ocean vistas and the number of bike/hike-only dirt roads. It was one of the most scenic overnighters I’ve done in a while, and I’m excited to work with Erin to get a route guide up on this website soon.
