Three sun-chasers roaming the cold Andalusian Sierras, three hopeless route planners lost in the labyrinth of the Gorafe Desert with no phone signal. But also a story of broken spokes, gazpacho-fueled legs, and chorizo-related injuries.

Getting out to the top of Avery Creek for a clear view of Looking Glass Rock is one of my all-time favorite activities. With a blue sky on a nice, albeit increasingly frigid day, it was a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

Heading up into the high country in the Sierra Norte for a weekend campout is always a treat… at least once you breach the heat of the valley and make it up the 1,800-metre climb! This time round, we enjoyed a variation on a theme, riding the Pueblos Mancomunados loop but working in a side trip to La Cueva Iglesia, a talus cave hidden in the forest at 3,000 metres in elevation, where bandits once stashed their loot amongst giant agaves and yuccas. On our way back down to the valley, we rode a new-to-us dirt road descent, affording spectacular views across the Valles Centrales, before running the city gauntlet to get back home.
