I wanted to drive to Mandø via Låningsvejen. Unfortunately, I was 30 centimetres, or an hour, too early. I had hoped to finally make the trip in winter. I had already been to the pretty little island in summer, but this time it was too cold to wait.

I managed to beat Joe Cruz to one of my favorite spots in the Sierra Norte and frame this shot before he rounded the corner. This grove of yucca and maguey verde grande sits at the top of the massive dirt-road climb from San Miguel de Valle on the Vuelta Pueblos A Los Mancomunados, complete with a backdrop of the mountains separating the communities of San Miguel and El Carizal. I didn’t get the same magical light as the frame showcased in our Oaxaca Route Network with Virginia in the same spot, but I love the look on Joe’s face as he’s witnessing this special place for the first time. It’s always worth a long pause for extra photos!

Seized a few unexpectedly nice days at the end of 2025 to get away. Relaxing mix of open road gravel and rail trails connecting Osawatomie, Kansas, with camping at Pomona Lake. Exceptional way to unwind and let the stress of 2025 wash away to start 2026 fresh and recharged.
