Today’s edition of Weekend Snapshot highlights a trio of two-wheeled getaways from some familiar folks. Find snippets of bikepacking trips in Germany, the Southeastern US, and Sweden and use the short form to share a photo from one of your recent rides here…

We catch up with a handful of contributors in this morning’s Weekend Snapshot, joining them on pedal-powered trips around the Lost-in-Brandenburg Loop in Germany, the hills of Western North Carolina, and the colorful south of Sweden. Start your week with a look back what three folks from our global bikepacking community were up to during their time off, then scroll on to share one of your photos and find some related posts for further reading.

Sweden

Weekend Snapshot

By Michael O’Dwyer

Our annual autumn bikepacking tour was in the Nörrköping, Sweden, region this year. Fourteen riders rode two separate but intertwining mountain biking and gravel trails, meeting several times throughout the days for coffee and laughs. It was a damp weekend, but that didn’t break our spirits.

Brandenburg, Germany

Weekend Snapshot

By Evan Christenson

I’ve long been a fan of Josh Meissner’s articles and find them to be full of very insightful and resonating thoughts. We’ve talked a few times online about meeting up and riding, and we finally were able to line it up along with a nice pocket of sunshine and fall colors in Berlin. We foraged and ate mushrooms with strangers (and didn’t die!), we played frisbee in the park, we napped in the forest, we ate like kings, we rode fast, we rolled slow, we looked at beautiful old buildings, and picked apples off trees. We rode out of the city with a big group of 40 riders and peeled off and slept under the stars beside a lake—until the rain started in the middle of the night, and we had to ride in the dark to find a small closed cafe with a roof to shelter under. The weekend was full of long conversations, beautiful backroads, good views, and most importantly, a new friend. Thanks so much for showing me around, Josh! What’s next? Photo by Josh Meissner.

North Carolina

Wilsons Ramble 2023

By Logan Watts

The second annual Wilson’s Ramble kicked off on Friday from Nebo, North Carolina, following our route of the same name through the beautiful Wilson’s Creek and Linville Gorge area. It was a massive success again this year with excellent weather, peak foliage, and around 60 stoked participants. Many thanks to the folks at Overmountain Cycles for making it happen and hosting a pre-ride evening with music, a big campfire, food trucks, and beer at the Linville Adventure Pasture. I decided to tackle the ~125-mile route in two days on my singlespeed, so I’m certainly feeling it today, but I’m already looking forward to next year and am excited to see how this event evolves. Glad to meet everyone out there!
