Katabatic Gear Palisade Quilt Review

Part of the brand’s Elite series, the Katabatic Gear Palisade Quilt is warm down to just below freezing. Stuffed with either 850 or 900FP down, it’s available in 5’6”, 6′, 6’6”, Wide 5’6”, Wide 6′, and Wide 6’6” sizes in Slate Blue or Woodland Green, fitting a wide range of packing spaces, users, and aesthetic preferences. As an active sleeper, Neil was particularly impressed by how well the Palisade remained in place and how warm he stayed throughout the night, owing to its unique pad attachment system and elastic binding around the bottom opening, which both help prevent drafts and maintain a snug fit.

Other Palisade specs include a differential cut to allow maximum loft, a continuous-baffle design that enables manual movement of down, a down-filled collar for extra coziness against your neck, a trapezoidal foot box with overstuffed baffles that maximizes comfort and efficiency, and an internal stash pocket for warm and secure storage of things like phones and water bottles.

In Neil’s experience, all of these features combined to create a great night’s sleep, and the lightweight, compressible design worked well with his no-frills packing style for nights out on the bike. Based on size and fill, the Palisade weighs between 17.8 and 23.1 ounces, packing down to between 6 x 10 inches and 6.5 X 11.5 inches.
