Today’s edition of Weekend Snapshot is all about hard-earned views, and we showcase reader-submitted vistas from Germany’s Black Forest, the high-elevation dirt roads of Peru, and Italy’s Lunigiana Trail. See all three and use the quick form to share a scene from one of your recent rides here…
Readers from across our global bikepacking community were out pedaling through some incredible places over the weekend, and we’re excited to show off another handful of striking scenes in today’s Weekend Snapshot. Take a moment to catch up with folks on their rides in Italy, Peru, and Germany below. Once you’ve done that, we hope you’ll use the short form at the bottom of this post to submit a vignette from one of your recent bikepacking getaways for potential inclusion in a future edition of Weekend Snapshot!
Schwarzwald, Germany
By Daniel Smyth
My buddy and I jumped on our bikes after work, headed north from Basel, Switzerland, and into the beautiful Schwarzwald (Black Forest) in Germany. The ride was stunning, but did include a cheeky four-kilometre section and an average grade of 15 percent! The 18-kilometre decent into Freibourg made it all worth it.
Peru
By Tom Powell
After a cold night at 4,300 metres, we’d run out of food and money and made a direct line for Huancavelica. We’d heard rumors of incredible bakeries and planned to have a rest day before heading back into the Peruvian hills for more endless climbing. Here’s Joe Douglas making the 21-kilometre descent into town.
Lunigiana, Italy
By Sophie Esterer
Some tough love on the Lunigiana Trail with long climbs, flooded singletrack, and in-over-my-head rocky descents. My rear wheel was nearly obliterated by a tree branch (my sluggardly pace really paid off at that point!) and I reached the critical, zero-chocolate level. But all strife was more than rewarded by fantastic views, rare bird sightings, and a huge plate of delicious pasta waiting for me at the end of the trail!
Send Us Your Weekend Snapshot
We’ll be selecting three photos per week to feature in Weekend Snapshot. Send yours along for consideration, and if it’s selected, we’ll be in touch! Note: We prefer 3:2 ratio landscape-oriented photos.
