After a long day in the saddle, nothing is more refreshing than a cold beer. Here are some special brews that punctuated some special rides.
This post isn’t really about a beer, it’s about the occasion that called for a very strong beer.
During my 6 months in Africa, I went through about 7 levels of hop withdrawal…
Two totally different brews from Denmark brewery, Evil Twin.
Olde Hickory is steadily rising on my favorite brewery list. I discovered the Redeemer and quickly snatched up a bottle to bring for a post-ride treat at the Bent Creek Campground.
I finally finished transforming an old lugged steel Craiglist turd into a sweet light-touring/randonuerring bike. On the maiden voyage she rode like a dream and here’s how I celebrated…
Beer and bikes, you can have one without the other… but its just not as much fun! That was the headline on the fledgling brewery’s Kickstarter page when it launched in January 2013. The three founders of Crank Arm Rickshaw Company are just as passionate about beer as they are about turning cranks, which led them to spin-off this bike and beer destination.
Is this the best post-ride beer I have ever had? I do believe so.
I do like to bend post-ride beer rules. And really, One Screw Loose’s ‘Brew Ha Habanero’ contains IPA… not to mention the fact that I devoured it after a giant ride. So, yes, post-ride jelly.
You know it’s going to be a good day when one of the first things you read in the morning is that it’s International IPA Day. A pretty good excuse to crack one before noon, if I do say so myself…
OK, I am slightly breaking the rules of a ‘post-ride beer’ by definition. But, I am keeping in spirit, that’s what’s important, right? Bike + punishment + joy = damn good beer. This particular treat was imbibed after breaking down an old 80’s Panasonic Touring bike that I found on Craigslist… injuries, soreness and bliss not withheld.
I decided to enjoy this creamy honey-colored IPA while breaking down my Surly Troll. So I put the green long-haul tank up on the work stand and started the chore of pulling it apart to purge its nooks and crannies of gunk and corrosion (and repurpose my Rohloff to a new build).
Last week VA and I pet/house-sitted in Raleigh, NC and checked out some Triangle Area singletrack while we were there (I’d recommend the New Light Trails). While in Rome we also imbibed some tasty local brews.
