A scene from three days between the sea and mountains in the far south of Italy. The first hills on the Strait of Sicily with their severe slopes took me up to the Aspromonte National Park, where it was pure wonder to see the sea from its heights. The weather wasn’t friendly to me—even the sand of the Sahara desert ended up obscuring the views—but my tenacity was rewarded by finding the sun again on incredible paths in a remote and fascinating part of my homeland.

The forecast finally turned to warmer days last weekend, making it was a perfect moment to head outside with a friend. After riding some fun and surprising gravel roads and trails, we reached our destination: a beutiful old forest on a top of a highway. Thankfully, some time ago they decided to build a tunnel rather than just blow a hole through the bedrock, preserving this nature area for all of us to enjoy. Land usage is an important aspect to think about, best to be done while enjoying some tasty vegan hot dogs with all the toppings.

In the image, I’m carrying the bike to avoid impacting a section of delicate costal flora. This was my first time exploring some trails near to home. Tracking its way through the Aussie bush, the white gravel trail sliced through the scrub. Meandering for 20 kilometres, the route rounds the rocky coast of Cape Naturaliste. I’m currently scouting the area to put down some distance for an overnighter through the gorgeous Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park.
